Efficient Chord Detection with Simon Hopkin's The Chord Detector

The Chord Detector by Simon Hopkin offers accurate and user-friendly musical chord identification suitable for musicians of all levels.
Chord Detector is an application designed to analyze audio sources and automatically identify the musical chords present within them.
With Chord Detector, users can enhance their musical skills by learning to play various tracks from their device's music library or Dropbox folder (as long as they are not DRM encoded). Additionally, the app can analyze and detect chords from YouTube videos or SoundCloud audio files.
Targeted at musicians of all levels, Chord Detector aims to assist users in learning to play a wider range of songs, especially those for which chord information is not readily available online.
Important Note: Chord Detector does not support iTunes Match or Apple Music due to technical limitations.
The recent update to the Chord Detection engine has significantly improved speed and accuracy, with results now reaching up to 95% precision under ideal conditions. The app can recognize various chord types such as major, minor, augmented, diminished, diminished7, dominant7, and minorMajor7.
To begin using the app, users can choose from four different audio sources:
- iPod Music Library
- Dropbox
- YouTube
- SoundCloud
Users can then select a track from their iPod Music Library, Dropbox folder, a YouTube video, or a SoundCloud audio file. Chord Detector will analyze the chosen music source and present a view of the detected chords within minutes.
The detected chords can be viewed in two different formats: scrolling and tabular. In both views, users can play the track while the chords scroll or are highlighted as the song plays.
Moreover, users now have the ability to view chords while the analysis is ongoing. They can also queue up multiple tracks for processing simultaneously, enabling continuous background chord generation while learning to play a song.
The chord view screens offer the following controls:
- Play/Pause: Start or pause the track playback.
- Rewind 30s: Rewind the track by 30 seconds.
- Forward 30s: Fast forward the track by 30 seconds.
- Tempo Adj.: Slow down the track without altering its pitch by variable amounts down to one-quarter of its original speed.
- Capo Adj.: Transpose the chords based on the desired fret position for a capo.
Additionally, users can access ukulele, banjo, and mandolin chord diagrams via an in-app purchase.
Note: Chord Detector supports the following audio file formats: MP3, AAC, WAV, and AIFF. DRM-protected content is not compatible. Tracks must be synced to the device. For iTunes Match users, ensure that desired tracks are downloaded to your device to prevent DRM warnings.
